A bowel cancer screening pilot study in Scotland appears to have cut the number of people dying from the disease.
Deaths from bowel cancer fell by 27% among those who chose to take part.
Prof Richard Steele of Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, was behind the study. The surgeon said too many people have ignored the screening programme.
Screening kits are posted to all people in Scotland who are between 50 and 74 years old.
